Here at Motives, we strive to empower people everywhere to look and feel beautiful inside and out and provide people worldwide with an opportunity to live the lifestyle they have always dreamed of. I recently interviewed Beauty Advisor Kenzo Kobayashi. He is part of our Market Malaysia team and has incorporated Motives Beauty Brand's products and tools to grow as a beautypreneur. Kenzo is breaking boundaries with beauty and continues to build his empire with others. Way to go, Kenzo! Thank you for inspiring us and constantly helping those around you to succeed.
How were you introduced to Motives?
I
was introduced to Motives in 2015, before it’s launch in Market Malaysia via Facebook. I tried the products during my friend’s visit from Taiwan. From that moment, I
started to explore more about Motives;
the empowering founder Loren Ridinger, Lala Anthony, the collaborations with various well-known branded magazines, events as well as artists and celebrities are what
really WOWED me.
I
knew this is what I
really wanted
to focus on when it came to
Malaysia.
It launched in Market Malaysia in September 2019.
What made you want to learn more and eventually partner with Motives?
How have you leveraged the training & events to build your belief to propel your success?
I started to attend every training monthly within a year, to build my interest, and to understand more about the potential of the beauty industry. I attended workshops to learn my skill, because I do not have any related background with cosmetics, I graduated from Information Technology.
Practice makes better! I bought every single Motives product launched in Market Malaysia, including all full colors and tones. We don’t buy only products that we love, but invest into products we can show to our customers. I tried these products on my own hand and face, organized more Motives parties, and one to one makeover sessions. This is how I gained my confidence and enhanced my skills to introduce the brand to more friends and team members. I believe the more products you have on hand to show to your customers, to let them really try on, you get the highest chances for your closing. It’s all about the “touch” and experiences that lead to better decision making.
In what ways has incorporating Motives into your business changed things for you?
There are few stages of achievement in this business :
Becoming a BA and Certified Trainer
I never expected I would become a beauty advisor, as well as a certified Motives trainer. It wasn’t in my initial plan that I could go that far. Within 3 years, I have also conducted more than 150 trainings, helping more beautypreneurs to grow the business together. I strongly believe this brings me to another level. I learned and explored everything in depth, from brands to products, to all markets and fashion trends. This has become my responsibility to ensure the right information is delivered to everyone, to ensure our knowledge doesn't stop there, but moving on trend.
Some social media friends send me messages because they know I am a Beauty Advisor, and they prefer to seek consultation from me because they feel safe. Be proud to be BA, do not hesitate to introduce yourself to the public on social media.
Personal Branding
Personal branding is important when becoming an entrepreneur. I have successfully built my personal branding on social media, and upgrade my image from time to time. When people have the trust and confidence with you and your stories that you're sharing, they will not have doubt about your profession or trying your products, as well as joining you to expand the business. My team grows from here. The latter achievement is becoming the field speaker in convention presenting the topic - Personal Branding, I knew I made it. It was a new goal had for my business and means so much to me, for efforts I had been putting in to learn and the skills earned from this business.
I still remember the former regional director of Asia once called me “Hi Motives Boy” at a convention. It makes me feel recognized in building the personal branding via Motives
Empowering the Male Market and People
I always shout out “Hey gentleman! Let’s build the Motives and beauty market together! Men can lead the market too!”. I wouldn’t say I am the best, but I am happy that people come to seek advice, telling me their goal is to be like Kenzo. Some leaders told me their partners treat me as role model and mentor. I am always proud to have the ability to influence more people, especially the male community to love the Motives Beauty Brand, and to share with them how they can build their personal branding utilizing the good product resources, to help more people to make a change, achieving the lifestyle they want. The duplication begins from here, and I believe this is what Loren’s mission statement means.
More Opportunities
The very first opportunity after becoming A Beauty Advisor, I was given the opportunity to coordinate the very first and second Motives runway showcase in Market Malaysia, which is a great platform for me to learn and experience a lot. I felt I am truly part of the brand’s family. From the initial planning of concept, styling, presentation, it’s a new achievement and value that I built for my BA’s profile.
The biggest dream I have achieved this year, is the given opportunity to become the first male field speaker representing the Motives and beauty brand on stage to intro new products, and lead the runway show for the long waited comeback stage. It’s another milestone for my beauty career.
I also gained a lot of offers in makeover projects, collaborations, tutoring from KOL academy, makeup academy, and corporates. Motives has become my daily fashion accessory and I will carry along at least 4-5 five products in my briefcase, to share with friends anytime the chance is there.
What do you feel is the best way to expand your Motives team?
Lead everyone to have fun using the products, and
organizing events and parties. I encourage most of my team members to participate in the
Motives Challenges, giving them small group training sessions
to boost their knowledge along the way of the
challenge. Hanging out for a quick makeover and outing for photo shooting is one of the plan I
always do. Expansion starts when you do
the right thing that is easy to follow and duplicate.
What are you most excited about in regard to long term goals leveraging Motives?
